A 21-year-old man was in critical condition following a single-vehicle crash on Highway 97 early Monday morning near Ahbau Creek north of Quesnel.

Called to the scene shortly after 3 a.m., emergency responders found the man pinned under the sport utility vehicle he had been driving when he failed to negotiate a curve, Quesnel RCMP said.

Highway rescue personnel extracted the man and transferred him to G.R. Baker Hospital in Quesnel, 116 kilometres south of Prince George.

He was later transported by air ambulance to Vancouver with serious injuries.

The 20-year-old passenger was treated at G.R. Baker for non-life threatening injuries and later released, RCMP said.
