Police are wondering where all the occupants of a car crash ran off to.
Two involved in the single-vehicle collision remained at the scene but police are investigating the presence of others who left the area as soon as the wreck happened.
Police and ambulance personnel were called to the 400 block of North Ospika Boulevard at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday night. A group of passersby were present at the crash site when authorities arrived.
"Several witnesses were on-scene assisting a 19-year-old male and 18-year-old female that were in the vehicle," said Prince George RCMP spokesman Cpl. Craig Douglass. "Witnesses have advised police that at least two other persons were in the vehicle and fled the scene prior to arrival of emergency services. A search was conducted in the immediate area to ensure that there were no occupants of the vehicle that needed medical assistance. No one else was located."
Those who fled the scene are still being pursued by authorities. Douglass said the simple act of running away before police could arrive was cause for suspicion. Perhaps they had warrants for their arrest, he said, but there was no indication from the two remaining that they were associated to criminal activity.
"All indications from witnesses were the car was travelling too fast, and that is what the physical evidence supports as well. A reconstructionist from North District will look at the scene to analyze the clues," Douglass said, to get to the bottom of why the northbound Nissan Maxima left the roadway.
The vehicle careened down an embankment into a ravine where it came to rest.
"Alcohol involvement has not been ruled out, it is part of our investigation, as a matter of course," said Douglass.
There were no serious injuries known of so far.
