A male driver from the Prince George area is dead, following a single-vehicle car crash west of the city.
RCMP Sgt. Anthony Hanson would not confirm the male's identity but said he was the lone occupant of a blue 1995 Ford Mustang that "failed to negotiate a series of S-curves on Lloyd Drive" and fatally left the roadway at about 4 p.m. Tuesday.
The gravel road is the main artery following the southern shoreline of Cluculz Lake. It links to Highway 16 at the eastern end of the lake, a cottage district for both Prince George and Vanderhoof.
The driver was the sole occupant of the damaged car. A perimeter search of the area was done, including with a police service dog, to ensure no one was ejected during the collision.
Hanson said an autopsy and toxicology report have been ordered but "nothing obvious has emerged as an early indictor of what happened." There were no overt indications that speed or alcohol were factors, nor have they been ruled out. A police collision analysis specialist was dispatched to the scene and that research is still being done.
"It was initially reported to us as an injury incident, and then en route we were advised it was likely a fatality and indeed that was the case," he said. "There were no witnesses that we know of, so if someone would come forward, if they saw anything that might help us understand this incident, we would love that."
