Crack shack burns

A house well known to police as a crack shack and a squatters refuge went up in smoke early Thursday.

A house well known to police as a crack shack and a squatters refuge went up in smoke early Thursday.

When RCMP and Prince George Fire Department arrived at the home in the 2100 block of Redwood Street, they found the rear of the single stucco duplex engulfed in flames which quickly spread to the roof, said RCMP Cst. Leslie Smith.

"The house was vacant and boarded up," said Smith.

Witnesses, who told police the fire started from the rear porch area, saw two squatters in the house in the early hours, but they had left.
