The third notable drug operation in the past week was disrupted by Prince George police.
At about 11:30 a.m. Thursday, police acted on a search warrant allowing them to raid a home in the 2200 block of Pine Street. The focus of the warrant was drug trafficking activity believed to be going on inside.
Five adult males were inside when Mounties arrived. They were arrested and the home searched by members of the city's RCMP Drug Section, Crime Reduction Team (specialists in chronic offenders) and the Downtown Enforcement Unit.
"A search of the property resulted in the seizures of crack cocaine, powder cocaine and an assortment of drug trafficking paraphernalia," said Cpl. Kent MacNeill in charge of the Downtown Enforcement Unit. "The approximate value of the drugs we seized was about $700. It's our belief, based on what we saw there, that the powder was about to be cooked up into crack version."
Charges are now pending against a 43-year-old Prince George resident. He was released on a court-sanctioned promise to appear before a judge at a future date.
"Drug-related charges will be recommended by police against this suspect," MacNeill said. "The other four were well know to us, but based on the evidence at the scene we feel they were there more for the use of the drugs rather than participating in the sale of the drugs which was our focus for this operation."
The Prince George RCMP ask that the general public continue to call the police or Crime Stoppers to report suspicious behaviours. This and the other two notable drug busts this week (both involving primarily prescription drugs) came as a result of tips provided by the public.
To make contact about any criminal offense call the Prince George RCMP at (250)561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1(800)222-TIPS (8477), online at www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca, or Text-A-Tip to CRIMES using keyword "pgtips".
