The move to open a new nightclub in Prince George is now in the hands of liquor officials in Victoria.

Coyote's is the proposed name for a nightspot in the former Cinepex Odeon and Good Time Bingo location at the corner of Third Avenue and Vancouver Street.

The plan needs the approval of the provincial government's liquor distribution branch and Prince George city council.

"Our application is active, but it is going through the process in Victoria, and that could take weeks or months, that is up to them, we just have to wait for the application to be studied," said proponent Ted Coole.

If it receives the approval of the Liquor Control and Licensing Branch, the next phase is going through the local government process.

The partnership group of investors includes the Coole family (brothers Ted and Robert plus Ted's son Nate) and business partners Cam Thun and Lorne Larose. The building's owner is Prince George businessman Ray Kandola.

The group already holds a liquor license from their previous venture, The Roadhouse Cabaret, but doesn't have a home since that venue's location, The Prince George Hotel, closed down.

The vision, according to the group, is for a 400-seat venue centred on live, high-end touring entertainers.

"This room gives me every opportunity to do everything I ever wanted to do in a concert hall setting," said Coole. "I didn't have the space, before. Here, we could really put on a show like we've always envisioned."

One of the factors Coole is hoping will play to their advantage is all the closures of liquor-primary establishments in recent years with few replacement spaces.
