Northern Health is working with Trans Mountain to contain a cluster of COVID-19 cases among workers in the Valemount area.
As of Friday, 16 employees and contractors linked to the project have tested positive for COVID-19 and 50 others are in self-isolation, according to information released by the health authority on Friday.
All 16 of the cases were still active as of Friday.
Northern Health has not yet declared the situation an outbreak, and public health investigations suggest the majority of the infections were not acquired at the pipeline company’s work camp in Valemount. There is little evidence of transmission of COVID-19 between the project employees.
The company has implemented additional safety measures on site, including enhanced health screening of employees, mandatory mask-wearing and increased sanitation at the camp.
Northern Health and Trans Mountain have been monitoring the cluster of cases since early August and working to control the spread, including immunizing workers.
