The number of active COVID-19 cases in the Northern Health region continued to rise on Tuesday.
Fifteen new cases were reported in the north on Tuesday, and the number of active cases was up by three to 111, according to data released by the B.C. Ministry of Health.
Two people were hospitalized in the region with COVID-19, with one listed in intensive care by the B.C. Centre for Disease Control. No new COVID-related deaths were reported in the province on Tuesday, leaving the pandemic death toll in the Northern Health region at 159.
As of Tuesday, 82.1 per cent of eligible British Columbians (those aged 12 and older) had received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and 70.6 per cent were fully vaccinated. A total of nearly 7.1 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in B.C., including 307,497 in the Northern Health region.
In the Prince George local health area, which includes Mackenzie and the Robson Valley, 74 per cent of eligible residents had received their first vaccine dose as of Aug. 5, and 59 per cent were fully vaccinated, according to B.C. CDC data.
A total of 395 new cases were reported in the province on Tuesday, driven by outbreaks in the Interior Health region which accounted for 187 of the new cases. There were a total of 3,284 active cases in B.C. and 71 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 – including 23 in intensive care.
Since the start of the pandemic there have been 153,313 cases of COVID-19 in B.C., of which 148,215 people have recovered. Of those cases, 7,969 were in the Northern Health region and 7,699 northerners have recovered from the disease.
COVID-19 has claimed a total of 1,777 lives in B.C.
