COVID-19 pandemic claims four more lives in northern B.C.

The B.C. Ministry of Health reported four more COVID-related deaths in the Northern Health region over the long weekend.

As of Tuesday, the region’s death toll from the pandemic had reached 303. Eight over COVID-related deaths were reported last week.

The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 in the Northern Health region continued to rise, growing to 59 on Tuesday, including 12 in critical care, according to B.C. Centre for Disease Control data. That was up from 55 hospitalized with COVID-19 as of Friday.

A total of 215 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the Northern Health region over the long weekend. The B.C. CDC no longer reports the number of active cases.

As of Tuesday, 90.5 per cent of eligible British Columbians (aged five and older) have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and 85.9 per cent had received a second dose. In addition, 54.9 per cent of people aged 12 and older had received a booster shot.

As of Tuesday, a total of 11.28 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in B.C., including 517,508 doses in the Northern Health region.
