COVID-19 outbreak downgraded at northern B.C. seniors apartments

A COVID-19 outbreak at s seniors housing complex in northern B.C. is now limited to one of its buildings, where outbreak measures are also being downgraded.

According to Northern Health, there have been 15 infections to date at the North Peace Seniors Housing Society apartments in Fort St. John, to which five are still active.

The authority confirms one of the residents died from the virus in November and was associated with the outbreak.

Northern Health Medical Health Officers have also declared the outbreak exposure risk over, for the complex’s Apartment Two building, as well as Apartments Three and Four.

Apartment One has been downgraded to 'precautionary' until one more incubation period passes.

"Northern Health and the North Peace Seniors Housing Society continue to work closely together to ensure COVID-19 prevention guidance and orders are followed, to protect the health of all residents and staff," reads an update this morning (Dec. 11).

"All apartment residents in Apartment One are being asked to continue to self-monitor for symptoms as well as limit visitors, adhere to mask-wearing in public areas in the buildings and hallways, and reduce movement and interactions with others."

As of this publication, Northern Health has recorded 1,199 COVID-19 cases since March and a death toll of nine.

There are 402 active cases, 14 people in critical care among 43 total hospitalizations and 788 recoveries.
