Two more sports in Prince George have been fouled out due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The city’s minor lacrosse and minor boys’ fastball seasons are the most recent to be officially cancelled in order to prevent any potential spread of the virus and to ensure safe health for players, coaches and volunteers.

This means the B.C. Bantam Lacrosse Provincial Championships, which were scheduled to take place in the northern capital, have been scrapped.

“Even though the season never quite got underway, I’d like to take a moments to thank the many volunteers who put their names forward to help put on another lacrosse season,” said Prince George Minor Lacrosse President Scott Brown in a release.

“Coaches, referees, team managers and our board of directors all give up their time to develop our athletes and run a strong association.”

The same reasons are echoed by Spruce City Minor Boys Fastball and while there’s been no province-wide cancellation by Softball BC, the league cancelled its summer season on its own accord.

In a social media post, it states it’ll regroup for 2021 in anticipation of getting back to safer play.

“As a small organization with limited volunteers, it is anticipated that the new safety protocols that have been put in place to follow will be challenging for us to meet as we want to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to play in as safe [of an] environment as possible.”

Both leagues are set to reimburse all fees that were registered for 2020.
