The campaign to force a referendum on the new Prince George RCMP detachment has fallen short of its goal.
Just 1,147 signatures were collected during a counter petition process, one-fifth of the 5,217 needed to stop city council from approving one last borrowing bylaw this Monday night to put the financing in place for the $38.9-million project.
Lead campaigner Eric Allen was disappointed in the outcome.
"That's too bad," he said.
His next step is to improve what he calls a flawed process.
