Prince George RCMP are warning residents about one or more people trying to us counterfeit $5, $10 and $100 bills.
The first attempt happened at a gas station on 20th Avenue on Wednesday. The suspect tried to purchase cigarettes using fake $5 bills.
The clerk spotted the fake bills and refused to take them.
The suspect was described as a dark-skinned man in his 40s with blonde hair. He was wearing a white hoody, black jacket and black ball cap with white writing.
The suspect left the gas station in taxi. The same man then tried to pay the taxi driver with fake $5 and $10 bills
Police received another call on Wednesday from a member of the public who was selling a used laptop computer. The laptop was advertised for sale in a local newspaper, and the seller agreed to meet a man at a gas station on Range Road.
The suspect tried to pay the seller in fake $100 bills. The six fake bills had only two serial numbers, EJE9791896 and EJE7171891.
Once the seller realized the bills were fake, the suspect fled on a bicycle.
Two more reports of counterfeit bills were reported on Thursday, but police had not released details as of press time.
In each of these cases, the bills were noticibly counterfeit. The feel of the bills, the rough edges and holographic maple leaf made the bills appear fake.
