A driver who was behind the wheel despite a blood-alcohol level three times the legal limit is among those who face penalties as a result of this season's CounterAttack campaign.
The driver was among the hundreds checked over the weekend as police continued patrols of Prince George roads and streets, RCMP said.
Another 17 drivers were issued 90 day immediate roadside prohibitions and 30-day vehicle impoundments because their blood-alcohol level was over .05 but under .08, while two were issued the same term for refusing to provide a breath sample. One other was given a 24-hour prohibition for alcohol.
"New drivers do not receive exemptions from their restrictions if their passengers are intoxicated," Cpl. Craig Douglass said in a press release.
There are options to driving home after having too much to drink. Call a friend or family member, take the bus or get a taxi. Or call Operation Red Nose at 250-962-RIDE (7433) between 9 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays through to Dec. 20 and on New Year's Eve.
Volunteers will show up to take you home in your own vehicle.
Anyone who sees someone driving while impaired is urged to call RCMP at 250-561-3300 or 911.
CounterAttack enforcement will continue throughout the month.
