History will look to repeat itself with another one-term city councillor looking to make the leap to the mayor's chair.

Coun. Lyn Hall is making an announcement at 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday in front of City Hall, for what sources say will be to unveil his intentions to run for mayor.

While he didn't confirm the gossip, Hall acknowledged the Wednesday event will be to set the record straight.

"I'm going to address that and bring the speculation and the rumours to an end," said Hall.

Prior to earning a seat on council in 2011, Hall sat on School District 57's board of trustees for 10 years, five of which he served as chair.

The venue will prove familiar for Hall - it is also where he made his announcement in October 2011 that he was leaving the school board behind to run for city council.

A commercial gaming auditor by trade, Hall has lived in Prince George for nearly three decades and was at the head of the school board when the district closed six schools and eliminated the equivalent of 84 full-time jobs when the board had to trim $5.2 million from its 2010 budget.

Hall topped the polls for council in 2011, with 9,436 - nearly 400 more votes than second-place finisher Brian Skakun.

The official nomination period for the Nov. 15 municipal election doesn't open until Sept. 30 but this will bring the number of candidates who've made public their intention to replace outgoing mayor Shari Green to two. Former city councillor and one-time mayoral candidate Don Zurowski announced his candidacy on June 12.

It's been a little more than a month since Green stated she would not seek another term on council. Green was also a one-term councillor before she ascended to the office of mayor in 2011, unseating incumbent Dan Rogers.
