City council will hold a special meeting Thursday evening to consider lowering the planned increase in the property tax levy to 1.75% from the current 3.44% in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
If passed, it would save a typical homeowner $39 this year, according to a staff report.
Steps in that direction include taking $24.8 million worth of capital projects off the books for 2020 - the biggest item being $8.6 million worth of upgrades to the Aquatic Centre.
Additional steps include keeping Four Seasons Leisure Pool for the rest of the year, withhold the cost-of-living increase to the salaries for mayor and council and cutting council's discretionary expenses by $135,500.
Keeping Four Seasons closed has drawn concern from at least one resident. In a letter to council, Warren Glack said doing so would only lead to overcrowding at the Aquatic Centre.
The meeting starts at 6 p.m. and can be viewed via livestream on the city's website: www.princegeorge.ca. Click here to look at the agenda.
