City council gave tentative approval of the closure of 10th Avenue between Brunswick Street and Patricia Boulevard.
City council approved the first two readings of the bylaw, which will facilitate the construction of a proposed hotel and condominium development. Last week local developer Rod McLeod announced plans to develop a $40 million hotel-condominium complex on a city-owned lot currently used as an RCMP parking lot.
"A fantastic news story," city councillor Cameron Stolz said. "I'm very pleased to hear that city staff were integral to facilitating the development."
The 0.56 acre section of road will be merged with the city land for sale to McLeod, city real estate manager Ian Wells wrote in his report. The section of road has been valued at $30,000, Wells' report added.
No further details about the land deal between McLeod and the city have been released.
Wells said the city will register an access easement on the property to ensure that there will be road access to the Prince George Public Library.
