Vancouver Canucks defenceman Dan Hamhuis headlines the list of players who will tee up in the Prince George Cougars Alumni Hospital Pro-Am Golf Tournament.
The event -- a fundraiser for the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation -- will be held Aug. 16-17 at the Prince George Golf and Curling Club and replaces the Hospital Charity Pro-Am. That tournament was hosted by the PGGCC for many years and saw local professionals playing alongside the registrants.
"It was a great tournament and people had a ton of fun but we just struggled to get sponsorship," Spirit of the North CEO Don Gowan said during a Monday media conference. "We were at the point where we were barely breaking even on that tournament and it's one of those fine lines in this world of fundraising -- we need to do things that will make us money and help get us recognition in the community and that fit the recognition bill but certainly not the profitability bill."
