Cougars sweep Blazers in weekend BCEHL U17AAA action

Bagri leads way for Cougars with pair of goals in Sunday morning victory

The Cariboo U17AAA Cougars took on the Thompson Blazers on Sunday in Kin 1 in the second game of a weekend doubleheader between the two teams.

The Blazers got on the board first with Hayden Evans potting a power-play goal at 9:09 in the first period. Isaiah Bagri answered back for the Cats scoring his own power-play tally with 7:54 in the first frame. Bagri also potted his second goal of the game 5:00 into the second period. Elijah Shaffi responded for the Blazers scoring 9:18 into the second. Just over a minute later Carter Boomer potted one for the Cougars with 9:33 left in the second frame and less than two minutes after that Ryan Smith tied the game up on the power-play with a goal coming with 7:50 left in the period. Blake Pigeon scored the game winner for the Cougars with 3:26 left in the middle frame giving the Cariboo Cougars a 4-3 win and the weekend sweep over the Blazers.

Ben Delisi was in net for the Cougars and he turned aside 27 of the 30 shots on goal he faced for the win while Preston Lewis got the start for the Blazers and turned aside 42 of the 46 shots he faced.

The first game of the weekend doubleheader took place on Saturday afternoon with the Cougars defeating the Blazers by a score of 2-1. Parker White and Jesse Brideau were the goal scorers for the Cats with Elijah Shaffi scoring the lone marker for the Blazers. Brady Mackay got the win in the for the Cougars stopping 22 of the 23 shots he faced while Zach Veninsky stopped 32 of the 34 shots he faced.

The next action for the Cougars will see them travel to Nanaimo to take on the North Island Silvertips on December 4th and 5th. Puck drop is scheduled for 4:45 p.m. on the 4th and 8:00 a.m. on the 5th with both games taking place at Frank Crane Arena.
