Conservation officers are asking for the public's help in tracking down the culprit who allegedly chased down a cow moose and her calf while they were in city limits.

The calf was injured in the process and had to be put down, the conservation officer said in a press release.

Specifically, conservation officers on the look out for the driver of a white pickup truck who witnesses said took a run at the pair Tuesday morning while they were browsing on some front yard trees

The driver "pushed" the two by following them "until the pair broke out running eastbound down Parent Street," the conservation officer service said in a press release.

The cow and calf moose eventually split up and a short time later calls of a young moose struggling to walk down the street were reported. The officer who arrived on the scene found a one calf moose bedded in a backyard in the 2500 block of Parent Street.

"This act endangered the public's safety and subsequently resulted in the destruction of the calf moose," the conservation officer service said.

Those with information about the incident are asked to call toll-free 1-877-952-7277.

All callers remain anonymous and tips leading to a successful prosecution can earn a reward.

The same number can be used to report other incidents. Witnesses are advised to take as much information as they can including descriptions about the parties involved, their actions, locations and licence plate numbers and anything else that might help.
