Police are anxious for new tips - tips they believe are on the verge of being disclosed - on the killing of Vernon Baker, 44.
"It is coming up on two years since it happened," said Prince George RCMP spokesman Cpl. Craig Douglass. "We are trying to put a resolution to this and investigatively, now is the time to ask the public to let us know anything that might be known about this."
Many tips have come forth about the apparent murder. It was disclosed that Baker was seen walking alone on Strathcona Avenue on the early morning of Apr. 11, 2009. He sustained serious stab wounds to the chest and managed to make his way to a residence for help, but it was too late. He died soon after.
"We are certainly investigating everything that crosses our desk, and we are confident there are people out there in the public who know things about this incident, and we hope they find the confidence to come forward to talk to us about this," said Douglass.
Baker is not believed to be involved in organized crime. Police believe some other motive than gang politics was behind this violence. Investigators are focused on the hours of 5 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. as the time gap they need to fill.
"Investigators are requesting assistance from the public in order to bring the person or persons responsible for the murder of Vernon Baker to justice," Godwin said.
Anyone with any information is asked to call Prince George RCMP as soon as possible at 250-561-3300 or anonymously call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or look them up on the internet at www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca and click the link for leaving a tip message. Calls and emails to Crime Stoppers cannot be traced, and the information is often the missing piece of an investigation's puzzle.
