When Annie Booth hung up the phone on Tuesday night, she was pinching herself not knowing whether to believe the news.

She was the winner of the Live Free contest getting her mortgage paid for the next three months.

"I actually thought it was one of my students playing a joke on me first," said Booth, an associate professor of ecosystems sciences management program at UNBC.

But it was no practical joke and the extra cash came at just the right time.

"It was very good timing. I was running a little thin with car repairs and animal repairs. So the timing is really, really good. It's going to help out for the three months," she said. "So the vet will get some [money], a charity will get some [money] and I'll be able to pay off a few bills."

Readers can win mortage or rent payments along with many weekly prizes that are up for grabs.

"Cut out as many entry forms from The Citizen and go to as many open houses as you can to increase your chances of winning," said Lu Verticchio, director of

advertising of the Citizen.

It does make a difference in peoples lives and John Stevens, River Point branch manager loves being apart of the contest

every year.

"It's awesome. It's a great part of the year that [Integris] gets to come in and be part of this. It's an honour actually to participate in the contest," he said.

There is more than $30,000 in prizes to be won in the ten weeks with the grand prize being mortage or rent payments covered for three, six or 12 months.

If the contest winner has already paid off their mortage, the winner will receive $750 a month. Readers can also win mortgage or rent payments along with many weekly prizes that are up for grabs.

To enter into the draw for the daily prizes, entry forms will be available at all the Royale Lepage open houses in Prince George.

Every Thursday, the full rules and details of the contest will be in the Classified section.

The contest runs until Dec. 3.
