After three quarters, permits for $69.8 million worth of construction have been taken out so far this year, according to the latest report from city hall.

That's well down from $105.2 million by the same point last year and $96.4 million by the end of September 2013. Indeed, it's been the slowest year for construction since 2011, when the total stood at slightly less than $65 million by this point.

However, the slide has been offset somewhat by new home construction. So far, 89 permits for nearly $26 million worth of that work have been issued, up from 86 permits for $23.8 million by the same point last year, and 67 permits for $18.7 million by the end of the third quarter in 2013.

Major projects for the third quarter of 2015 include $1 million worth of improvements to the ReMax real estate office at 611 Brunswick St. and $800,000 worth of improvements to the new Goodlife Fitness at Riverpoint shopping centre.

A permit to construct a new service station, worth $550,000, at 1977 Queensway was also issued, as was one for $275,000 worth of work at the Dragon Stone Mongolian Grill at Riverpoint.
