A conference on helping people dealing with past trauma will be held this fall in the city.

Prince George RCMP's victim services and community policing sections will be hosting "Healing Through Learning: Trauma-Informed Practice in Northern B.C." Oct. 19-21 at the Civic Centre.

"Recognizing the impact of residential schools, violent crime, and other forms of intergenerational trauma, this conference provides an opportunity to plan how to best support clients experiencing these forms of trauma," said victim services coordinator Krista Levar.

Keynote speakers will include former NHL superstar Theo Fleury, who battled drug and alcohol addictions throughout his career. Following his retirement, he revealed he had been sexually abused by former coach Graham James.
