An Alberta man has been sentenced to a one-year conditional sentence for his role in operating a marijuana grow operation outside Prince George.

Christopher Gilbert Meeuws, 22, of Vegreville, Alberta, was issued the term Friday in Prince George provincial court after pleading guilty to production of a controlled substance.

Meeuws was among three Alberta men arrested after RCMP seized about 1,400 plants in December 2011 from an Upper Mud River property 25 kilometres west of Prince George.

Three large diesel generators, a large excavator, a skidsteer tractor and a heavy-duty pickup were also seized.

"The property was converted for the sole purpose of producing marijuana," police said at the time. "Part of the property included an underground bunker. Although not currently being used, investigators believe that the purpose of this bunker was to grow marijuana."

In December, Christopher Jeremy Kunze, 35, of Calgary, was sentenced to a two-year conditional sentences. Charges against the third man were struck from the list in February 2013.

A conditional sentence means the person serves the term at home, rather in jail, but subject to conditions such as house arrest, a curfew, and a prohibition from consuming alcohol. Breaching conditions could result in the persons serving the rest of the term behind bars.
