A mistaken 911 call that led to the discovery of a marijuana grow-op has yielded a six-month conditional sentence for a Prince George man.
Craig Frederick Lyver, 30, was issued the term in Prince George provincial court on Tuesday, 18 months after RCMP followed up on an abandoned call to the North District Operational Communications Centre from a home in the 1200 block of Burden Street.
When an RCMP member responded to the call during the early morning of April 23, 2012, a woman answered the door and told police she had dialed 911 in error. But whenever such a call is received, it is still RCMP procedure to clear the home and make sure no one is in danger.
In the process, the member uncovered the grow operation in the basement. After subsequently securing a warrant, police seized more than 260 marijuana plants and cultivation equipment.
Both Lyver and the woman were taken into custody and charges against Lyver were eventually pursued. A conditional sentence means Lyver will serve his term at home with restrictions, including limits on when he can be off the property. If he breaks a condition, he can be subject to serving the rest of his term behind bars.
