North Nechako Road almost got an unplanned paving on Friday morning.

A concrete truck operated by Spoletini Concrete accidentally started pouring concrete on a 400 metre section of the road, east of Foothills Boulevard shortly after 9 a.m.

Prince George RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Craig Douglass said the spill was caused by operator error.

"There is a switch in the cabin... the switch dropped and he [accidentally] hit it," Douglass said.

The driver of the truck was charged under the Motor Vehicle Act for transporting an unsafe load, Douglass added.

City of Prince George roads division manager Mick Jones said staff from Spoletini Concrete swept and shovelled most of the concrete off the road.

"Fortunately one of our staff was driving by, and alerted us right away," Jones said. "It didn't end up being problematic, but if it had set up on the road it could have been a problem."

City crews responded with street sweepers to clean what concrete couldn't be manually swept off the road.

"We will charge the cost to Spoletini Concrete," Jones said.
