Compliments chicken nuggets recalled over salmonella concerns

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a recall for Compliments brand chicken nuggets, citing possible salmonella contamination.

This additional information was found during the CFIA's investigation into another Sofina Foods Inc. product. The company's Crisp & Delicious brand of nuggets were recalled for salmonella concerns last month.

The CFIA is still conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products.

If you purchased Compliments chicken nuggets – breaded chicken cutlettes, uncooked (1.5 kilograms), with a with a best before date of July 18, 2019, an outer box lot code of 2019 JL 18, and an inner bag lot code of 1998M, the product should be thrown out or returned to the store.

The nuggets are sold nationally (excluding Quebec).

According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, there are 59 cases of illness in 10 provinces linked to this outbreak, including four in B.C. However, none of the individuals have been hospitalized and no deaths have been reported.

Symptoms from salmonella poisoning can include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea, while long-term complications may include severe arthritis.
