Owners of older-model cars and trucks that lack an anti-theft system will be given steering wheel locks if they show up at the Prince George RCMP detachment during December.

They must bring in insurance papers proving ownership to the community policing office at the detachment and preference will be given to owners of Ford, GMC/Chevrolet, and Dodge pick-up trucks.

The campaign is being carried out in partnership with the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia.

"We want to help protect our customers in Prince George who own these targeted vehicles from becoming the victims of auto crime" said ICBC road safety coordinator Doug MacDonald,. "Thieves are constantly looking for any opportunity so we're asking everyone to be vigilant and proactive in protecting their vehicles - park in well-lit areas and always remove possessions from your car."
