RCMP are continuing to ask drivers to use extra caution as winter sets in after responding to a trio of serious collisions over Wednesday and Thursday.
More than three hours was needed early Wednesday afternoon to extract a 51-year-old driver from a loaded logging truck that went off 700 Road near Bear Lake.
The driver suffered two broken legs and other serious injuries, but it could have been worse.
"Fort-George Highway Rescue personnel were instrumental in extracting the driver and likely saved his life," RCMP said.
A tow truck had also been called in to secure the truck while the rescue was carried out.
Later the same afternoon, a 56-year-old man was struck by a pickup truck while crossing the road at Third Avenue and George Street, downtown.
The pickup's 58-year-old driver was issued a ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian and the victim was transported to hospital for treatment.
"Of note, the pedestrian's cellphone was stolen immediately following the collision," police added.
Then, shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday, emergency personnel were called to a collision between a van and a tractor trailer unit on on Highway 16 near West Beaverly Road.
The 52-year-old driver of the van, which was pulling a trailer loaded with a truck, was issued a ticket for failing to yield after pulling out in front of the tractor trailer.
"No injuries reported, however traffic was affected for several hours as there was an extensive amount of debris on the road," RCMP said.
Mounties urged drivers "to exercise extra caution on our roads this time of year as weather worsens and daylight shortens."
