Collision with moose kills one

One person is dead after a two-vehicle collision involving a moose last night.

Shortly after 10 p.m. Friday, the Prince George Regional Provincial Traffic Servies and the local RCMP responded to a crash on Highway 16 West, east of the Isle Pierre intersection.

According to police, a west bound Volkswagon Golf struck a moose, lost control and crossed into an oncoming lane of traffic. The vehicle was t-boned on the passenger side by a Buick Le Sabre. The driver of the Golf was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver of the Le Sabre was transported to the University of Northern British Columbia Hospital was non-life threatening injuries.

The names of the drivers have not been released.

The RCMP wish to remind drivers to be extra cautious while travelling on highways and to watch for animals that may be in the area as wildlife - especially moose - can be difficult so see at night.

The police and the BC Coroners Office are still investigating, but do not currently suspect that speed or alcohol played a role in this crash.
