A Grande Prairie woman has been identified as the victim of the fatal motor vehicle collision on Highway 16 east of Fraser Lake on Wednesday.

Cheryl Donna Rowe, 47, died instantly, police said, when her car crossed the centre line and struck a westbound unloaded logging truck at about 1:30 a.m.

"Although she was wearing her seat belt, the dynamics of the collision compromised any possibility of surviving the crash," police said.

The truck driver, a 47-year-old woman from Fraser Lake, 165 kilometres east of Prince George, was treated for minor injuries and released later that morning. She was wearing her seatbelt, police said.

The investigation has confirmed that speed and alcohol were factors, police said.

Anyone who may have seen Rowe's 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt travelling on Highway 16 or may have had any dealings with her prior to the crash are asked to contact the Vanderhoof RCMP traffic services unit at 1-250-567-2222.
