It's lights-out time this weekend at the College of New Caledonia.
A planned blackout will close the Prince George campus starting tonight at 7 p.m. and continuing until Monday at 6 a.m. to allow for electrical system upgrades.
During the power outage, CNC students and employees will not be allowed in the main building and they will have no access to their email accounts, Internet connections or college phones. All regional campuses in Burns Lake, Fort St. James, Quesnel, Mackenzie, Vanderhoof will also be without email, Internet and voice mail services.
"The closure is necessary since we are upgrading our aged main campus electrical distribution system in the main power plant," said Theo Mushumanski, CNCs manager of campus development. "We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause for students, employees and the public who won't have access during that time."
The facilities shop and old trades building will also be closed. Buildings not affected by the power interruption are the Prince George Tech Centre, the John A. Brink Trades and Technology Centre, and CNC's Nicholson Street building.
The power will be shut off for two one-hour periods at the CNC student residence. The first will occur at 6 p.m. tonight to allow for a switch to a portable generator. The second interruption is set for Sunday at 5 p.m. to switch the residence back to the main power supply.
