College Heights Cougars conquer all at this Prince George volleyball tournament

CHSS only surrendered one set during eight-team tournament on the weekend

A Prince George high school is off on a high note to start its 2019-20 season of senior boys’ volleyball.

Over the weekend, the College Heights Secondary Cougars (CHSS) spiked their way to an undefeated record at D.P. Todd’s volleyball showcase, finishing 6-0 en route to the title and only lost one set all tournament long coming in their third pool-play game against the host-Trojans.

The third-ranked 'AA' school in the province met the other undefeated squad in the gold medal match on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 21), the Centennial Christian Seahawks of Terrace, and beat them in straight sets by scores of 26-24, 25-20.

CHSS cruised by the Kelly Road Secondary Roadrunners in the semi-finals earlier that day, both sets ending in 25-17 decisions.

Kelly Road would settle for bronze in a victory over Duchess Park.

The Cougars other winning scores are as follows:

Quarter-final

  • 2-0 win over Prince George Secondary (25-8, 25-7)

Round-robin

  • 2-0 win over Kelly Road (25-22, 25-22)
  • 2-0 win over Duchess Park (25-9, 25-16)
  • 2-1 win over D.P. Todd (25-16, 20-25, 15-10)

Other competing schools were Cedars Christian and Nechako Valley Secondary.

The Cougars also claimed the 2019 Prince George Kodiaks Classic title earlier this month.

CHSS will be next to play tournament host when the Jon Bragg Memorial gets underway Oct. 4 and 5.

They are also the defending champions of the annual northern B.C. senior boys’ volleyball event.
