It was five years ago that police found the body of Shawn Halikowski and began the unresolved murder investigation into his death.
Monday marked the anniversary of his body being found, dumped in a secluded spot on a vacant, wooded residential lot on Hofferkamp Road. He had already been missing for about two weeks. His last known sighting was March 11, 2007. Police know that several people were in contact with him that day and believe information about his fate is still being withheld by one or more of those people.
His family have never relinquished their love for Halikowski, or the belief that the police will get to the bottom of this murder. Halikowski was 44 years old, successful and closely connected to many friends and family.
"Although the final chapter in Shawn Halikowski's life may have been tragic, his family would like the public to know that he was a well loved and determined man," said Prince George RCMP spokesman Cpl. Craig Douglass. "After putting himself through university and obtaining a Bachelor's degree, Shawn married and had a beautiful baby girl. Before returning to Prince George in 2004, he completed his Master's degree and had been working for the City of Surrey."
Prince George RCMP do not believe that Halikowski passed away where he was found near Hofferkamp Road, but that he was transported there after his death. There were other clues giving investigators the clear indication that murder was behind his death, although details have been withheld to preserve the integrity of the investigation, Douglass said, although he did say that the police have had plenty of good information to work with over the past five years "but we could definitely use more, in that search for the puzzle piece that makes it all come clear."
The RCMP and the Halikowski family encourage anybody with information about this deliberate death to please contact the Prince George RCMP at (250)561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1(800)222-TIPS (8477), online at External Linkwww.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca, or Text-A-Tip to CRIMES using keyword "pgtips".
