A transition to colder conditions will begin Tuesday across northern and central British Columbia, Environment Canada said in a special weather statement issued this afternoon.

With it, the temperature will follow a downward trend over the next few days. As of Monday, the overnight low is forecast to drop to -24 C by Friday night followed by a daytime high of -14 C on Saturday.

Blustery northerly winds will accompany the onslaught of Arctic air with windchill becoming a factor Tuesday night and Wednesday before the mass settles over the Interior.

"People working and spending time outside are reminded to dress warmly and in layers, preferably with a wind-resistant outer layer," Environment Canada advised in the statement. "Travellers are encouraged to add winter emergency kits to their vehicles which include a blanket, extra clothes and boots."
