CNIB needs funding help

Following 90 years of providing library services to visually impaired Canadians, the CNIB is calling on the federal and provincial governments for assistance.

"As a charity, CNIB can no longer afford to go it alone," Elaine McKay, CNIB communciations manager for Western Canada, said in a news release.

CNIB is asking both governments to "partner" with them to make library services for people with sight disabilities "fair and equitable."

McKay said while Canadians have relied on CNIB to provide large-print material for 90 years," in most countries, governments fund that service."

CNIB is holding a news conference today in Vancouver to address the issue and is asking British Columbians to support the need by sending letters to Premier Gordon Campbell and Prime Minister Stephen Harper for a publicly-funded library service for those with vision disabilities.
