College of New Caledonia international students will celebrate Diwali this Friday evening.
Also known as the Indian festival of lights, Diwali honours the victory of knowledge over ignorance, light over darkness, and good over evil and is celebrated by more people worldwide than Halloween and Thanksgiving combined.
"We're so excited to bring Diwali to Prince George, and we eagerly invite the public to join us in celebrating," said CNC international education coordinator Sabreena MacElheron. "The event is designed for people of all backgrounds to come together and learn about other cultures. Understanding translates into harmony."
The local celebration will be held at the Hart Crown Banquet Hall, 3955 John Hart Hwy., 5:30 p.m. start.
The evening will include an Indian buffet dinner catered by Dana Mandi, plus performances and dancing.
Cost is $20 for adults, $15 for students and $10 for children 12 and under and tickets are available at CNC's international education office, the CNC students' union office and at Dana Mandi, 2095 Fifth Ave. (near Watrous St.). Tickets at the door will be $20 for all ages.
