The College of New Caledonia was one of eight post-secondary institutions to receive provincial funding on Tuesday for short-term programs in healthcare.

The Fort St. James campus will be able to offer five full-time equivalent seats in its medical office assistant program from its share of the one-time $1.8 million in funding, Advanced Education Minister Amrik Virk announced on Tuesday.

The money, which is dedicated to programs that run a year or less in length, will be split between 12 programs at eight schools. CNC's program was the smallest in terms of seats funded, with other colleges in the program receiving money to operate between 10 and 96 full-time student places.
