Students interested in enrolling in College of New Caledonia's (CNC) practical nursing program in 2012 are invited to attend one of three information sessions in late October and early November.

A face-to-face information session is slated for Wednesday, Oct. 26 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in room 1-310A that features a presentation as well as question and answer time.

"Prospective students will be given more detail on the upcoming curriculum and the need to complete Biology 130 as a prerequisite," said Jacquie Scobie, CNC's practical nurse program lead and faculty member.

Beginning in September 2012, the practical nurse program's length is also increasing, from 1,400 hours over 52 weeks to 1,850 hours with a completion date of late April, 2014.

"This is due to expanding scope of practice and entry level competencies as established by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of B.C. and the requirements in the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Exam," said Scobie. "We are still working on what that scheduling will look like."

The entire practical nursing faculty will also be on hand to answer any additional questions prospective students may have.

Two webinars are set for Nov. 2 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and Nov. 16 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Interested students are asked to contact Vi Tattari at 250-250-562-2131 ext. 5841 where they'll be provided with a URL so they can connect to the webinar. Participants will then phone in for the webinar.
