CNC doggie fashion show to benefit SPCA

Canines of all shapes and sizes will strut their stuff and put their best paws forward during the eighth annual College of New Caledonia (CNC) doggie fashion show on Saturday. Beginning at 1 p.m.

Canines of all shapes and sizes will strut their stuff and put their best paws forward during the eighth annual College of New Caledonia (CNC) doggie fashion show on Saturday.

Beginning at 1 p.m. in CNC's Prince George atrium, dogs of every pedigree and their two-legged owners will compete in a variety of categories: best in show, most original, best human/doggie co-ordination, best doggie personality and people's choice award.

All proceeds go toward the Prince George SPCA.

"It's been very successful through the years," said co-ordinator Barb Old, CNC's dean of community and international education. "We've raised $8,000 for the SPCA plus pallets of food, toys and cleaning supplies. It's an event people look forward to."

The show is open not only to dogs and their owners, but all animal lovers. The People's Choice Award is a popular category as is the Jasper Memorial Award. That award in particular has special meaning to Old. Jasper was a Bichon that Old adopted from the SPCA shelter.

"The award is for a shelter or rescue dog who conducts himself with dignity," she said.

The four judges are Kathi Travers, Garth Frizzell, Angela McLean and Laurie Kosec. The emcee is Shane Lochran, CKPG's Funchaser with 99.3 The Drive and 101.3 The River radio stations. Participants can also stop by and say hello to the SPCA's Super Dog.

The entry fee is $10 per dog and participants are asked to register by Thursday, Nov. 17. A limited number of registrations will be taken on show day between 11 a.m. and noon. A registration form can be downloaded from the College News and Events section of CNC's website: http://www.cnc.bc.ca/Exploring/Services/Library/doggie-fashion.htm.
