The "extreme cold weather" is forcing CN Rail to run shorter trains between Jasper and Prince George, the company said in an advisory issued Monday.

"Extreme cold has an adverse effect on train braking systems, and CN trains run at reduced lengths in order to maintain brake line pressure and ensure safe operation," the company said adding that traffic patterns "remain close to seasonal norms at present."

The advisory was also issued for Toronto to Winnipeg via Thunder Bay/Atikokan, Ont.,Winnipeg to Superior, Wisconsin and Winnipeg to Edmonton and was expected to last five to six days.
