CN Rail is offering up to $25,000 to groups interested in planting trees in their communities, particularly on properties adjacent to its rail lines.
CN's EcoConnexions From the Ground Up program is now accepting applications through the campaign's website: www.cnfromthegroundup.ca.
Proposals can include more than simply planting trees. According to criteria, they can also be related to using vegetation for traffic calming and safety, school greening, converting brownfield areas, and establishing naturalized areas and creating or restoring parks.
Two national organizations, Trees Canada and Communities in Bloom, are helping implement the program.
Applications for the project's first year must be received by July 12 and successful recipients will be notified by Aug. 29.
