The sixth annual Climb for Cancer will take place sometime this year but not this month, when it usually took place in the past.
Because of the restrictions around the coronavirus does not allow events to take place the planning committee will announce the dates for a pandemic-friendly event later in the year.
“After last year’s reimagined event, we had hoped to return to our regular event in April 2021, but it has become clear that we will likely have to hold the Climb for Cancer later in the year in a revised format,” Doug Bell, planning committee chair, said.
The Climb for Cancer raises funds for the operating costs of the non-profit Kordyban Lodge in Prince George where people from out of town stay when taking their cancer treatments at the BC Cancer Centre for the North.
Last year's event took place in August over four days and people would climb the cutbanks by appointment to ensure everyone could stay safe. This year the same format will be used.
Participants can do the climb individually or in a team with their bubble. All participants are asked to raise a minimum of $100.
Last year $40,000 was raised and the same is the goal for this year.
In five years a total of $207,000 has been raised.
Donations are accepted leading up to and following the event.
