The Canadian Cancer Society's Climb for Cancer is barely a month away.

The event, which raised $30,000 for the Kordyban Cancer Lodge last year, is set for Sat., April 22 at the cutbanks on PG Pulpmill Road, across from Northern Estates Winery.

About 200 people participated last year and organizers are counting on that number to go up to anywhere between 300 and 500 with a concurrent increase in the amount of money raised, which was triple the goal expected last year.

"Many will climb the iconic cut banks and others will cheer from the bottom while their family and friends make the trek," event chair Doug Bell said in a press release.

"Once at the top they will take in the view before descending the hill. Once back to the orchard, they will enjoy music and food from vendors such as Wendy's and the firefighters BBQ."

Participants are encouraged to register as individuals and as teams beforehand at www.northernlightswinery.ca and then raise funds as well as put in some practice sessions going up the slope.

The event itself runs from noon to 4 p.m. Donations can be dropped off at the orchard, about 500 metres further along the road from the climb's starting point.
