Completion of a cleansing walk along the Highway of Tears will be among the highlights when National Aboriginal Day celebrations are held Tuesday at Lheidli T'enneh Memorial Park.

With the help of an RCMP escort, Brenda Wilson-John, who began the 750-kilometre trek in Prince Rupert on June 1, will walk from Treasure Cove to LTM Park, arriving at the destination by 11:35 a.m.

Her sister, Ramona Wilson, is among the 18 women have been murdered or have disappeared along Highway 16 West and adjacent routes since the 1970s.

Honouring women is the theme for this year's celebrations, which run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

There will also be live entertainment, free train rides, vendors and childrens' activities.
