Clean up underway at trailer park

Progress is being made on the clean-up order at Lombardy Mobile Home Park, but there's still a ways to go, said one city councillor.

"From what I've seen, there's been a little bit of clean up but the clear majority of the clean up still has to be done," said Brian Skakun, who visited the Norwood Street property on Tuesday.

"I'm quite disappointed and talking to a number of the residents there today, they're really disappointed as well."

The park was the subject of a remedial action order approved by city council earlier this month, which called for the destruction of 16 mobile homes and a variety of other orders.

Property owners had until Monday at 5 p.m. to file an appeal of the order.

Skakun said he didn't know at the time whether such an appeal had been filed, but that the most important thing wasn't the deadline, but that the work was done.

"I appreciate the people in Lombardy trailer park that have been fighting this battle and have looked after their properties themselves. It's no different than other neighbourhoods that are putting up with unsightly properties or have in the past," Skakun said.

"There's a lot of good things going on and we have to acknowledge that but there's some bad apples, obviously, that are ruining it for a bunch of us."

The Lombardy order was the fourth set of remedial actions council approved in three consecutive meetings, but it's not something anyone particularly wants to have to do, said Skakun.

"It takes a lot of city administrative time, council's time and, whoever the property owners are, it's got to take time, too," he said.

"So all they have to do is clean up the property to start with - it saves a lot of headaches all the way around and the community's better off. We have a cleaner community."
