Today is Clean Air Day and the Recycling & Environmental Action Planning Society (REAPS) would like the community of Prince George to make sustainable and environmentally conscious choices to help reduce pollution and improve air quality.

Be sure to turn off energy-using appliances and lights when not in use and switch to energy efficient appliances and light bulbs, improve insulation and weather stripping in the home as the less energy is used the less impact there is on the environment.

Try to use the car less and your own power more. Walk or bike to the store, or take public transit.

Always try to buy locally made goods and locally grown produce to reduce the impact of freight transportation.

Friday is proclaimed to be World Environment Day by the United Nations, raising awareness of the environment and community members can help by not idling the vehicle. Ten seconds of idling uses more fuel than restarting the engine.

Conduct an energy audit of home or office to find ways to reduce energy use and costs that will not only benefit the budget but help the environment as well.
