The city's unemployment rate stood at 5.2 per cent in September, according to Statistics Canada labour market survey numbers released Friday.
That's up from 4.6 per cent in August, as the number of people in the Prince George holding down jobs declined by 900 to 51,400.
However, it marked an unprecedented seventh straight month that the total employed in Prince George stayed above the 50,000 mark. The previous longest stretch ended in December 2012 and peaked in September 2012 at 52,500, the highest in the city's history.
The number of people unemployed and looking for work rose by 300 to 2,800 and the number of working age not seeking employment rose by 500 to 16,400.
The picture is also better than it was a year ago, when the unemployment rate was 6.6 per cent, 48,000 people were working, 3,400 were looking for work and 19,200 were not participating.
The figures are based on a three-month rolling average and do not say how many are working full-time and part-time.
