The city's unemployment rate stood at 5.7 per cent in September, according to Statistics Canada labour market survey numbers released Friday.
That's down from 6.1 per cent for the same month last year, as the number of people holding down jobs rose by 1,400 to 49,400.
Those seeking work essentially held steady, declining by just 100 to 3,000 while the number unemployed and not seeking work declined by 1,1,00 to 20,100.
The city's total labour force, or number of people of working age, rose by 300 to 72,500.
The numbers are based on a three-month rolling average and do not separate part-time and full-time employment.
